  • Donations raised through the 2014 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge spurred a massive increase in The ALS Association’s capacity to invest in promising research, the development of assistive technologies, and increased access to care and services for people with ALS.

The ALS Association has tripled the amount of money allocated to research in the years since the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, leading to greater scientific output and a greater understanding of the disease pathways and potential strategies for new therapies. In addition, the Association funded 29 new ALS Certified Treatment Centers of Excellence and 20 new Recognized Treatment Centers to increase the availability of ALS multidisciplinary care.

Locally, Ice Bucket Challenge funds were used to support a variety of direct care programs, including case management and guidance, durable medical equipment loan, caregiver respite, support programs, and general grant programs.

Thanks to everyone who took the Ice Bucket Challenge and continues to support people with ALS and their families. Challenge Us to find treatments and a cure for ALS!
