Northern Ohio Chapter

  • Thanks to generous Ice Bucket Challenge contributions, The ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter continues to enhance and strengthen several care programs.

Our ALS Care Grant program, which offers financial relief for patient care expenses, has grown from offering 50 grants per quarter with a $100,000 budget in 2015 to 80 grants per quarter with and a budget of $150,000. We’ve increased our Founders’ Respite Care budget by 50%, enabling us to fund 2,200 hours of in-home care reimbursement annually, so our caregivers can take a much-needed break. We also now offer grants to ALS families to participate in the annual ALS Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC.

Our care services team has doubled in size from two to four full time employees, with remote staff in the Youngstown and Toledo markets. This enables us to have a care team member within an hour’s drive of nearly every patient we serve. Our Chapter expanded the number of support groups offered in our Youngstown and Akron markets, and added Bereavement groups in Cleveland and Akron. All of our groups now offer remote participation, as well. As a result, participation has increased 150% since 2014.

A key part of our mission is to empower people with ALS and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. Many thanks to everyone who donated to the Ice Bucket Challenge, and who continue to support our mission. We could not do this without you!
