Western Pennsylvania Chapter
Thanks to the funds and awareness raised by the Ice Bucket Challenge, The ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter has significantly expanded services over the past five years.
Since 2014, the Chapter has strategically increased outreach to people living with ALS by expanding our Care Services Team to offer a well-rounded network of healthcare professionals. In 2017, the Chapter reached 97% of people living with an ALS diagnosis in western PA. With additional Social Workers, Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists, the Care Services team has completed hundreds of in-home visits each year – increasing 63% since 2014.
The Chapter has also expanded its support and funding of ALS Clinics. An ALS Staff member now participates in four clinics throughout the region. Additionally, the ALS Clinic at Allegheny Health Network is now an ALS Association Certified Center of Excellence – a highly sought after certification.
Increased national awareness has empowered the local ALS community to advocate, fundraise, and speak out about this disease. Fundraising events, support groups, and educational opportunities have grown, allowing the Chapter to increase its impact on people living with ALS and their families.
